DUBAI // A cleaner who distributed his contact numbers to flats in Al Rafaa area to earn work stole money from one of his employers and was sentenced to three months in prison this morning.
According to the charges sheet, the defendant, MH, 27, From Bangladesh, stole Dh5,800 from a bedroom drawer in the house of AA, an Indian housewife who hired him to clean her apartment once a day.
Records said he stole the money and turned off his mobile phone after the theft, then stopped coming to the victim’s house.
Prosecutors said he confessed to investigators that he stole only Dh4,300.
MH had a spare key to the apartment to facilitate his entry and exit when the couple were not at home, AA testified.
She said she noticed the theft on January 6 this year. She
asked her husband if he had taken any money, and when he said no, she started calling MH, but discovered his mobile was turned off. She said she tried calling him several more times, then reported him at Al Rafaa police station.
MH will be deported after serving his prison term.
