Three get jail for burgling babysitting grandma
DUBAI // Two maids and a salesman who burgled the house of a woman who was babysitting her grandchildren were sentenced to two years in prison today.
One maid snatched a toddler from the woman's arms while a second gagged her and the salesman tied her up. The trio stole Dh200,000 worth of valuables, the Dubai Criminal Court heard in June.
Prosecutors said that the salesman MO, 27, and the two maids NF, 25, and FH, 27, knocked on the door of the woman's Mirdiff home on the morning of March 20 and grabbed her when she answered.
"My 18-month-old grandson was in my arms, and I thought it was the water company delivery boy" said MT, from India.
Prosecutors said the salesman sat on the woman's chest to keep her quiet. She fainted and woke up 30 minutes later to find her jewellery, and that of her daughter, missing. She then called her daughter and son-in-law and the security guard.
Prosecutors said that one of the maids had previously been employed by the woman. Police tracked the trio to an apartment near the Grand Hyatt Hotel where some of the stolen items were recovered.
All three will be deported after completing their jail terms.
