DUBAI // A thief who stashed Dh1million worth of gold at a graveyard has been jailed for a year.

RN, 20, from Kosovo, admitted breaking into a jewellers on July 17.

Two accomplices, OH and MH, had already left the country by the time RN was arrested..

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard that a display table was smashed with a hammer and gold jewellery valued at nearly Dh1m was taken.

CCTV footage helped the police trace the robbers. Footage from another shop showed two of the men buying the hammer.

After he was arrested at a hotel, RN showed police a graveyard at Bani Yas where he had hidden the gold.

A fourth man, ET, 43, from Germany, was charged with possessing stolen items.

A Pakistani salesman testified that he had worked at ET's gold shop and that he was asked to liquify and reshape the gold to ship it to Turkey.

RN admitted the theft but told the court he acted alone. "I did it, the others had nothing to do with it," he said.
