Driver had bullets, heroin and opium in his car when he was stopped at the Hatta border, hears court.
Teen driver found with bullets and drugs during UAE border search
DUBAI // A teenage driver stopped at the Hatta border for a routine search was found to have bullets, heroin and opium in his possession, a court heard today.
Border police found two bullets in the Lexus of SA, 19, from Oman, when he tried to enter the UAE on March 13 this year.
"When I found the bullets, I took the defendant to the search room and he was inspected fully," recalled the Emirati inspector, SH, 23.
During a personal search the inspector found heroin in the man's wallet. The inspector then performed a second search of the vehicle and found opium hidden in three plastic film-roll boxes.
"He denied knowing anything about the drugs found in the car and said these belonged to a friend, but he admitted possessing the heroin found in his wallet and said he brought it to use it himself while in the UAE," said the inspector.
At the Criminal Court the man denied charges of possessing 0.98 grams of heroin and 0.28 grams of opium.
However, he was convicted and sentenced to one year in prison to be followed by deportation.
