Syrian boy raped by police officer, three others, charges say

They lured him to a deserted area by telling him they were taking him to a rap contest, prosecutors say.

DUBAI // Three students and a police officer sexually assaulted a 15-year-old Syrian student after threatening him with a knife, a boxing glove and a taser, a court was told.

The victim said he went with them to what he was told was a rap contest in Dubai. But instead, they took him to a deserted area in Al Warqa and assaulted him, records show.

Prosecutors charged the Sudanese MA, 21, and an Emirati police officer, AM, 24, with sexual assault. Two others, AA, a 19-year-old student, and MG, 24, both Emiratis, were charged with criminal complicity.

MA and MG denied the charges before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance; the other two failed to show up.

According to records, the victim was at Al Qasbaa on December 22, 2010, when he met AA, MG and a juvenile who is being prosecuted as a minor.

Those three learnt that the victim liked to rap. So they deceived him into believing that there was a rap contest in Dubai and that they were heading there. The victim got excited and accompanied them.

On their way, they met MA and AM, who got into the car and went with them to a deserted sandy area in Al Warqaa, the victim testified.

He said the four men sexually assaulted him in the back seat of the carafter threatening to kill him.

One of them took his mobile phone to prevent him from calling for help after he tried to jump out of the moving vehicle, records show. But after his mother called him, worried about his whereabouts at such a late hour, the defendants drove him back to Sharjah.

The next day he went to the police station and reported the incident.

Police arrested the defendants on December 28 and 29.

The next hearing will be on June 12.
