Sword-wielding man 'beat up his mother', Dubai court hears
DUBAI // A man brawling with a taxi driver beat up his mother after she refused to fetch his sword, a court heard yesterday.
Prosecutors said the Omani KA was fighting with the driver on July 11 this year at about 1am, when he asked his mother to fetch his two swords from their house.
She refused, so he got the swords himself. But when he returned the driver had gone, so he assaulted his mother, blaming her for failing to stop the driver from leaving.
He then looked up and noticed four women were watching him.
"'You bitches', he screamed at us," said one of the women, FM, 40, an Emirati housewife. She said he continued to insult her, her daughter and two sisters. "He ran towards us but one of his swords fell to the ground," said the housewife.
The women rushed to their house but could not lock the door before he reached them, so stood behind it to prevent him from entering. The Omani threw one of his swords through the gap in the partially-open doorway and hit one of the women in the shoulder.
Police then arrived and arrested him. He was not present at the Criminal Court to enter a plea. The next hearing was set for October 18.
