DUBAI // An Iranian operations manager tried to sell an undercover police officer almost 24g of hashish, the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard yesterday. BI, 37, was charged with drug possession with intent to sell. He also had four hashish-laced cigarettes, prosecutors said, and more than US$900,000 (Dh3.3 million) in fake currency. He also faces charges of smuggling forged currency. The court was told that after a tip-off to the Dubai Anti-Narcotics Department the investigating officer arranged to meet the defendant at Ibn Battuta Mall. "We met at the food court, and I inquired about the quality of the [drugs]," the officer said.
The defendant accompanied the officer outside the mall and asked him to wait, the court was told. "Five minutes later he told me to proceed to the men's room to find the product and try it," the officer said. He discovered pure hashish weighing 23.98g, prosecutors told the court. Police raided the defendant's house and car. The court heard that 9,130 fake US$100 bills were found in the house. Four hashish-laced cigarettes were found in the car, police said.
