A driver accused of fleeing the scene of a road crash which left a passenger with serious injuries was forced to go to a police station to confess to the crime, a court heard.
The Egyptian student, 19, was allegedly at the wheel of a Ford Mustang involved in an accident in Dubai in June of this year.
Four friends of the teenager believed him to be the driver and called on him to admit responsibility.
After he failed to do so, the group went to his student residence and forced him into a car, taking to see their injured friend in hospital before dropping him off at the police station.
The Egyptian then reported to police that he had been kidnapped while he was being questioned over the incident.
The four defendants, two Emiratis aged 20 and 23, an 18-year-old Sudanese man and a Yemeni man, 22, were subsequently arrested.
“We wanted him to admit that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash,” the 23-year-old Emirati accused, told police.
He said they informed a police officer from Lihbab Police Station that they were bringing the student in.
The student said he was not driving the car when the crash occurred.
It was not disclosed in court whether he remains under suspicion of driving the vehicle.
The four men denied a charge of forcefully taking the man out of his home at Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday.
The hearing was adjourned until October 13.
