Student cleared of threatening woman with Turkish Mafia
DUBAI // A student accused of robbing a woman then threatening to set the Turkish mafia on her if she did not drop the complaint, was acquitted by the Criminal Court today.
Prosecutors said HS, 24, from Iran, made threatening telephone calls on March 12.
Records said the phone was on loud speaker and the woman's friend overheard the student say that he was in Istanbul and he would send members of the mafia to kill her if she did not do as he said.
Encouraged by her friend, the woman reported the student to police.
Court records did not clarify what the student was allegeded to have stolen from the woman.
He was not present in court to enter a plea last month.
