ABU DHABI // A man who stalked a woman and blackmailed her into giving him Dh80,000 has been freed from prison on condition he has no contact with his victim.
The woman, an Emirati, withdrew her complaint against AM, also Emirati, in return for him pledging to the Criminal Court that he would leave her alone.
He had stalked the woman at her workplace, threatening to post pictures of her online and tell her family they were having a relationship.
The court heard she paid him Dh80,000, bought him a car and also paid for him to take a holiday so that he would leave her alone.
Prosecutors told the man not to approach the woman at her workplace or call her, warning him that if he did so he would go back to jail.
He pledged to stay away. Court records did not make clear whether he would have to repay her the money.
