DUBAI // A woman accused of killing her business partner then fleeing to Pakistan after he tried to blackmail her into sex has handed herself in to Dubai police.
"We had to negotiate with her and we explained to her that the UAE penal code takes into consideration cases where there is a protection of honour involved," said Lt Col Ahmed Al Meeri, head of the criminal investigation division.
"This has saved us a lot of time and effort, instead of waiting for all the Interpol procedures, which can be time consuming."
AG, 32, a married Pakistani woman, killed her business partner, a 45-year-old Pakistani, after he used a blank cheque she had written to blackmail her into sex.
The partner wrote the cheque, for a large sum of money, then submitted it to police with a claim that it had bounced. "He was bargaining with her to have sex in return for withdrawing his claim with the police," said Lt Col Al Merri.
Police say AG pursued the man to a rented room in an Arabic town house in Rashidiya and stabbed him several times with a knife. She then flew back to her home country. The body was found the next morning by the owner of the house, who had come to ask AG to complete some room rental documents.
"He knocked several times and when she did not respond he opened the door and found the man dead," said Lt Col Al Meeri.
Through a source in Pakistan, Dubai Police tracked the woman down, and called to talk her into returning. She handed herself in on Thursday.
The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
