DUBAI // A man cashed a Dh3 million cheque meant for his elderly father and cheated his siblings out of their inheritance, a court has heard.

The Misdemeanours Court was told that MS, a 32-year-old Emirati businessman, went to the Dubai Lands Department in 2007 over the sale of land owned by his father in Shindagha.

He said he was representing his father who was too old to walk into the office from the car parked outside, prosecutors said.

An employee at Al Shindagha compensations division, H A, said he took a cheque for Dh3,074,860 out to the father and had him sign a form to say he had received the money.

Butthe employee said that when he went to give the father the cheque, the son snatched it.

The son's older brother, TS, claimed that the younger son opened a new bank account into which he depositedhis father's cheque. He said MS withdrew the money the next day.

The older son said he found out what had happened few months after his father died.

"I didn't even know my father owned that plot of land," he said.

The younger son said he was not guilty and claimed the older brother was motivated by a separate court case between them.

The next hearing was scheduled for November 27.
