Six months jail in Dubai for burglar who broke into car with sleeping driver
DUBAI // A thief who broke into a parked car while its owner slept inside has been sentenced to six months in prison.
PK, 26, from Bangladesh, smashed the back window of the Nissan Sunny unaware that the owner TR, 40, from Pakistan, was asleep on the front seat.
The owner, staying in the car because he had lost his house keys, immediately awoke and recognised him.
"I stepped out of my car and saw him, I recognised him, I knew he was from the cafeteria near my residence," recalled the owner.
He confronted the thief and asked why he had broken the car's window. The thief told him that he had fallen into the window by mistake.
But the owner didn't believe him and called police. He was informed that many car thefts had been reported in that area of Al Rashidiya and that in each case the car's window had been broken.
The break-in took place at 2am on April 8 this year.
The man confessed to a charge of robbery when he appeared at the Criminal Court earlier this month.
He will be deported after serving his prison term.
