An apartment building security guard who sexually assaulted a tenant and threatened to kill her has had his prison sentence increased.
The worker, 37, followed the woman into a lift at the building where she lived before trying to pull down her trousers, a court heard.
The Pakistani man was jailed for three months at Dubai Criminal Court last December after being convicted of sexual assault.
But prosecutors believed the punishment was too lenient and appealed for a longer sentence.
The case was brought before Dubai's Court of Appeal, with the guilty party's sentence increased to three year behind bars.
The incident took place in Jebel Ali on August 24 of last year.
“I was returning from a supermarket near my residence at Ritaj tower, in Dubai Investment Park, when he chased me,” said the Filipino victim, 38.
The guard had let her into the building as she had forgotten her access card.
“He followed me to the lift offering to carry the bag in my hand. I said no but he followed me and walked into the lift with me,” she said.
When the lift stopped at the fourth floor, where the woman’s apartment is located, the accused asked her to accompany him.
“I turned him down and at that moment he pulled me towards him and hugged me from the back,” she said.
The guard repeatedly threatened to kill her as he tried to pull down her trousers, the court heard.
“I screamed loud, pushed him away and ran to my apartment,” she said.
She alerted police, who arrested the attacker.
The man will be deported after serving his jail term.
