DUBAI // A salesman who stole Dh300,000 worth of sports wear from the shop he worked at was today sentenced to six months in prison to be followed by deportation.
MQ, a 27-year-old from Pakistan, was arrested after the store supervisor, AJ, a 30-year-old Iranian, noticed that 120 boxes and five large bags of sports wear were missing when he carried out an audit on December 10. He also noticed the lock to the store's back door was broken.
Police arrested the salesman, who confessed during interrogation to selling 12,420 pieces of clothing - worth Dh300,000 - to AB, a 46-year-old Indian investor, for Dh40,000.
The investor was sentenced to six months in prison. GK, a 32-year-old Afghan driver, who was paid Dh1,700 to help the salesman carry out the theft received a six-month imprisonment as well. Neither the investor nor the driver will be deported.
The salesman had denied the charge at the Dubai Criminal Court.
