Bungling burglar broke into the houses of three of his father's neighbours in one night, court hears.
Sailor 'burgled three homes in one night'
DUBAI // A sailor broke into three neighbouring homes in one night but managed to steal only Dh500, five Qatari riyals, a memory card, a pair of women’s shoes and a photograph of a householder’s sister, a court heard today.
A?A, 27, an Emirati, was chased from the first house after a scuffle with the occupant, fled the second when the householder’s wife started screaming, and was arrested in the yard of the third. Police found his car parked outside with one of his friends asleep in the passenger seat, prosecutors told Dubai Criminal Court.
The sailor’s bungled burglaries in Al Quoz began after midnight on February 20, the court was told. H?J, 23, told prosecutors he was on the first floor of his house when he was confronted by a masked man in blue jeans and a black T-shirt.
H?J tore off the burglar’s mask in a scuffle that was cut short when he heard his sister screaming from inside the villa. While HJ called police, his neighbour E?M, 56, woke up to his wife’s screams of “thief in the house”.
By 4.30am, the court heard, the sailor was in the house of EH, 48, whose wife awoke to the sound of something breaking. Police cornered the burglar in the yard, where he threatened them with a rock.
The sailor is charged with trespass, threatening police, assault, damaging property and theft. He was not in court and the next hearing was set for May 13.
