RAK man charged with murder of boss 'who verbally abused him'

A Bangladeshi man who claims he endured verbal abuse from his boss on a daily basis has been charged with his murder.

RAS AL KHAIMAH // A Bangladeshi man who claims he endured verbal abuse from his boss on a daily basis has been charged with his murder at a store in Ras al Khaimah. The suspect, 21, said he considered suicide before deciding to kill the 27-year-old Bangladeshi who employed him, RAK police said today. The suspect allegedly hit his employer with a metal object twice at the bottom of the head, police said. Neither man was identified. The victim was taken to hospital but died on the way. The suspect allegedly left the victim for dead and hid the weapon in a large cigarette box, police said. He then closed the store, went to the bank and returned in the afternoon, pretending to have discovered the victim's body. Witnesses said that had seen the suspect lock the shop and leave without his boss earlier in the day. Police investigators said that they found his first testimony suspicious. "He wanted to confuse the police," said Major Marwan al Mansoori, the RAK police head of public relations. "He closed up the shop like he normally did every day and he went to the bank. He planned to do everything as usual but it did not succeed." The suspect confessed that he had beaten his boss, said Lt Col Salem Sultan al Darmaky, the chief of the RAK Criminal Investigation Department. The case has been referred to prosecutors RAK Police have urged labourers to go the Ministry of Labour or the police if they are mistreated by their employers. A labourer who said he was owed three months wages stabbed his boss repeatedly in the back last month. azacharias@thenational.ae
