Two men arrested and found with 250 capsules of heroin, they say.
RAK heroin operation broken up, police say
RAS AL KHAIMAH // Police have arrested two Asian men on charges they trafficked more than 250 capsules of heroin.
An Asian man living in Ras Al Khaimah was arrested on Sunday in a sting operation after he tried to sell heroin to an undercover officer, said Lt Thaer Al Najjar.
He confessed he had imported the capsules with a partner in Abu Dhabi; that man was arrested by Abu Dhabi police. "RAK Police called Abu Dhabi Police and they found the second man selling drugs," Lt Al Najjar said.
Police found 256 capsules of heroin in the homes of the two men. The men said they had swallowed all of the capsules to smuggle them into the country, but police did not say whether they had entered the UAE by sea, air or land.
Both men had expired UAE work visas.
In February 2010, a RAK court sentenced five men to death for drug trafficking. One man in that case swallowed 70 heroin capsules to smuggle them into the country. The capsules had an estimated street value of Dh20,000.
