Prisoners fought over insult to mother

A prisoner who broke the teeth of a fellow inmate who cursed his mother receives an additional six months in jail.

DUBAI // A prisoner who smashed the front teeth of a fellow inmate who insulted his mother was today sentenced to an additional six months in jail.

The Dubai Criminal Court found the 32-year-old Afghan EH guilty of assaulting the Indian prisoner MN. It quoted a medical report that said the Indian prisoner could no longer chew properly, referring to the injury as a permanent one per cent disability.

The fight occurred on the afternoon of July 29, 2011, when a number of inmates were playing cards in a cell next to where the Indian inmate was sleeping. He was woken by the sound of them playing and cursed the Afghan's mother, which provoked the fight.

The Indian prisoner was referred to the Misdemeanours Court on charges of assaulting and insulting the Afghan.
