Painter invaded home, raped maid, prosecutors say

He is accused of using his job as a pretext for getting inside house before attacking the woman, the court is told.

DUBAI // A 34-year-old painter and decorator  raped a maid at her sponsor’s house last August, a Dubai court heard yesterday morning.

AK, from China, who denied the charge, rang the doorbell at the house at about 10am on August 1, 2010, and when the Filipina maid answered, prosecutors said, he pushed his way inside. He told her he was at the home to paint her sponsor’s bedroom, records show. The sponsor and his wife had already left for work.

The maid, who was in the house with the child of her employers, told prosecutors she told the man that the room did not need painting and that she had not been informed about any painting job. At that point, prosecutors said, AK carried her to her bedroom and raped her on the sofa.

She said she fought him, but he overpowered her. He fled the house, but investigators were able to recover DNA evidence from the house, records show.

Prosecutors said the maid called her sponsor’s wife, who informed her husband. The Egyptian couple arrived at the home five minutes later and called the police.

The sponsor, identified as HM, told prosecutors that when he arrived home, he found the maid getting out of the shower. He noted that her clothes were torn and her eyes were red because of crying.

A forensic report matched the DNA with that of A?K and the maintenance company for which he worked confirmed it had not sent any of its employees, including the Chinese man, to the home.

Police said A?K confessed to the crime. The suspect also faces the charge of trespassing the residence, in Al Shorouq complex in Mirdiff.

The next hearing was scheduled for February 23 to summon witnesses.
