ABU DHABI // A nurse who tripped over electronic cables in a hospital ward while holding a newborn baby is appealing against her conviction of "causing an injury by mistake and endangering a child's life".
The Court of First Instance found the nurse guilty and fined her Dh3,000.
However, at the Appeals Court yesterday, the nurse argued that despite tripping she had managed to avoid dropping the baby.
Her lawyer said a forensics report proved the baby had not hit the floor and said that the newborn was released from the hospital later that day. He said this would not have been possible had she been injured.
He said that complications during birth had resulted in temporary blood clots in the baby's head, but that these had nothing to do with the incident.
A verdict will be announced on March 20.
