DUBAI // A mother, her two daughters and their friend who formed a gang and robbed several jewellery shops in Dubai were sentenced to three months in prison each.

The four women will be deported after serving their prison terms, the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours ruled last week.

According to court records, the last theft the gang carried out – just before they were arrested – happened on August 6, 2010, at BRR Jewelleries in Naif.

The daughters LA, 36, and MA, 33, as well as their friend SH, 45, kept the shopkeeper busy by asking him to show them different types of necklaces. Meanwhile, SA, 60, the mother of LA and MA, stole a 50-gram gold necklace worth Dh10,000, records show.

The shopkeeper noticed the necklace missing and reported it to police, who a few days later arrested the women. LA, MA, SA and SH denied the charges at their first court appearance on May 9.

Investigations revealed that the women entered the country several times from Dubai International Airport and Sharjah Airport, records show.

According to records, the women, all Egyptians, often flew separately into the country.
