Men who attacked and raped a woman at knifepoint are jailed for 15 years
Dubai Criminal Court convicted the pair of rape, issuing death threats and consuming alcohol
Two men who attacked a woman and raped her at knifepoint have been sentenced to 15 years in jail.
Dubai Criminal Court convicted the pair of rape, issuing death threats and consuming alcohol while a third Pakistani defendant, 22, was sentenced to 10 years in jail followed by deportation for attempted rape, issuing death threats and consuming alcohol.
Records show that a gang of seven men — including four teenagers — attacked the 41-year-old Kenyan woman and her friend on March 3 last year near her home in Al Quoz 2.
“It was 2.30am, I ran to the main road but they caught up and restrained me then took me to a nearby sandy area,” the woman said.
An Emirati man, 22, and 19-year-old man, whose nationality was not disclosed in court records, took turns raping the woman while the other men held her and her colleague at knifepoint.
“One was restraining and kissing me while his friends raped me, they told me they would kill me if I didn’t shut up,” she said.
The victim’s colleague, a 23-year-old Kenyan security guard, told prosecutors that he was robbed by one of the men.
“One was holding the knife and told me he would stab me, while another stole money from my pocket and their friends raped my colleague,” he said.
After the men fled the woman called police, who arrived within 30 minutes.
“They told us about the rape and the knife. We looked around and found the knife tossed behind,” said an Emirati officer.
He said the woman described the men and police arrested them the same night.
Three of them were referred to the Criminal Court but denied all charges, only one admitted consuming alcohol. The four others were referred to the juvenile court to face charges of rape and aiding and abetting.
The trio appealed the sentence against them and are expected to appear before Dubai Court of Appeal next month.
