DUBAI // Two men confessed today to planning and carrying out the armed robbery of a jewellery shop in Naif, the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard this morning.

The men, MA, 31, and TA, 25, both Pakistanis, were charged with attempted armed robbery and of damaging property.

Prosecutors said that on May 8, the two men planned to rob Diamond Palace after watching the shop for a few days. They entered posing as interested buyers.

They attacked AR, the salesman, with knives and MA tried to restrain him and gag him. AR resisted, however, and screamed for help.

A salesman from the next-door shop rushed to help, where, he said, he saw MA and TA assaulting AR with knives.

"They ran through the glass door and I chased them," said AP, from Bangladesh. "When I caught AM, there was blood on his shirt and his knife was left on the shop's floor."

The next hearing will be on October 13.
