DUBAI // Two workers and a carpenter were acquitted this morning of kidnapping, assaulting and robbing a truck driver by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

AK and RK, both 28 and JB, 21, all Indians, had told the court PL, the alleged victim, was their friend and had come to their house in Muhaisenah area for a visit.

PL, 35, told prosecutors that on November 16, 2009, AK caught him by the arms, allowing JB to hit him on the head with a metal bar. Then RK took a mobile phone and labour card from his pocket, he said.

He testified AK called a taxi and threatened to kill him with a cleaver. After getting in the taxi, PL

screamed for help to people in a car next to them, who turned out to be criminal investigators.

The two officers found a cleaver hidden under the driver’s seat behind and a metal bar.
