ABU DHABI // Two Pakistanis will be cleared of attempted murder after a group of his compatriots had a whip-round in court.

G Kh, 23, and Kh G, 32, were charged with stabbing MF, a 32-year-old from India in the head and stomach, in an attempt to kill him.

At the court on Monday, MF said he would drop the charges if the men paid him Dh10,000 in compensation. The defendants, however, said they only had Dh5,000 between them.

A handful of Pakistanis present at the court then raised and offered to pay the other Dh5,000 to help out the men. The court thanked them for their kind gesture.

Although the attempted murder charges have been dropped, according to the man's consent and Sharia, the defendants will remain in prison for now.

They may still be convicted of lesser crimes when a verdict is delivered on November 5.
