The defendant yesterday denied charges of threatening, kidnapping and rape, insisting the sex was consensual.
Man used Dubizzle to lure rape victim, court hears
DUBAI // A man who allegedly used a classifieds website to lure a woman to his apartment and rape her should receive the death penalty, prosecutors say.
KM, 24, is charged with threatening, kidnapping and raping a 24-year-old Filipina tourist on November 5 after she posted her CV on Dubizzle.com.
In his defence yesterday, KM told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance that he met the woman and did sleep with her. But he said the sex was consensual and the case was filed maliciously because the woman asked him to pay her Dh4,000 and he paid only Dh500.
In her testimony to prosecutors, the woman said KM had asked her to meet him for a job interview.
"I got in [his] car and he drove me to the basement car park of a building and then we took the lift to an apartment on the fifth floor," she said. "I realised after we got in that this was a residence and not an office and I called my brother's girlfriend and told her what was happening, but he took the phone away and told her not to worry and then switched it off."
She said that after reviewing her CV, KM pulled her to him and took her to the bedroom. "I tried to push him away and started crying," she said.
She said KM threatened to have men waiting downstairs gang-rape her if she did not submit.
As the woman reported the incident immediately, prosecutors were able to collect medical evidence.
