DUBAI // A man accused of attempting to stab his brother to death failed to show up in a Dubai court this morning to enter his plea.

HM, an Emirati, who turned 18 a few months before the incident in October 2010, was charged with the attempted murder of his brother AM, 21.

AM told prosecutors that there was a "misunderstanding" between him and his brother on October 15. The two were at the family home in Al Qusais arguing when HM went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed his brother twice, prosecutors say.

AM was wounded in the left side of his chest and abdomen, a forensics report showed. A 45-year-old woman in the home testified that she witnessed the dispute and saw AM on the floor bleeding.

AS, a police officer, told prosecutors that HM confessed that he had planned the stabbing for four days and that he intended to kill his brother.

The next hearing will be on June 21.
