An 11-year-old boy was traumatised when a fellow worshipper attempted to rape him after leaving the mosque, a court hears.
Man 'tried to rape boy after prayers at mosque'
ABU DHABI // An 11-year-old boy was assaulted by a man who tried to rape him after they finished praying at a mosque, a court heard yesterday.
Reading the Emirati boy's testimony from case files, Chief Justice Sayed Abdul Baseer, the head of the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, said the adult worshipper, also an Emirati, asked the boy to go home with him and led him there by the hand.
"At his house he tried to kiss him and rape him," the judge continued. "The boy kicked him away … and escaped from him."
A 16-year-old cousin of the boy said he was also at the mosque when he heard the man ask the child to meet him outside.
The cousin said he kept praying but when he left he passed the man's home and heard the boy screaming.
"I rushed to my uncle's [the boy's father's] house and called him for help," he told the court.
When the two of them arrived at the house they saw the boy walk out in tears.
"I heard him tell his father that the attacker hit him," said the boy's cousin.
The boy has suffered sleeping problems since the attack and was now scared of older men. He was traumatised, his father told the court.
The case has been adjourned until next Monday.
