DUBAI // A man arguing with his sister stabbed his elder brother when he tried to intervene on her behalf, a court heard today.

A?H, 24, drew the knife from his pocket and stabbed his brother N?H, 30, in the chest, missing his heart by inches, prosecutors told the Criminal Court.

The sister wrestled the knife from her brother's grasp and called an ambulance.

As the elder brother was taken to Rashid Hospital, the younger brother was arrested.

Prosecutors said the younger brother was having a heated argument with his sister, N, at about 4.30am on November 18 last year.

Court records did not clarify what started the argument, but it was loud enough to wake the older brother.

When he investigated and found his younger brother threatening their sister, he punched him. The younger brother then stabbed him.

Prosecutors charged the younger brother with attempted murder, but he did not appear in court to enter a plea.

The case was adjourned to April 18 to summon him.
