Man sexually assaulted swimmer at Dubai beach, court hears
Accused is alleged to have groped the woman after ignoring requests to leave her alone
A man sexually assaulted a Dubai beach-goer as she swam in the sea, a court heard.
The Filipino woman, 39, said the accused had been pestering her and a group of friends while they enjoyed a day out at Jumeirah Beach on August 2.
The sun-seekers had urged the Pakistani man, 32, to leave them alone on a number of occasions.
The woman said he ignored their pleas and "appeared from under the water" to touch her genitals.
She said she pushed the man away and screamed for help, prompting the man to attempt to flee.
“One of the men on the beach who heard my plea to catch the man gave chase and restrained him until police arrived,” she said.
The man was later arrested and told police he had touched the woman by mistake while diving into the water.
He was charged with sexual assault during a hearing held behind closed doors at Dubai Criminal Court.
The court is due to rule on the case on September 18.
