Man sentenced to life in prison for stabbing wife to death in Dubai
The Indian man killed his partner after a heated row in a car park near to her workplace
A man who stabbed his wife to death in a Dubai car park was sentenced to life in prison.
The Indian man, 44, was arrested by police after the attack outside the victim's workplace in Al Quoz on September 9 last year.
Dubai Criminal Court heard the couple had a heated argument over his belief she was having an affair.
The man stabbed his wife, named by Indian media as C Vidya Chandran, several times in the chest and thigh before fleeing the scene, leaving the knife behind.
The woman's manager raised the alarm after she did not return to the office.
“I called her mobile number and office landline but she didn’t answer so I asked the driver to look for her outside,” her manager said.
“He called me minutes later telling me he found her unconscious and in a pool of blood."
CID and forensics teams examined the scene and found a knife next to the woman’s body.
The husband was
arrested in the Jebel Ali area few hours later.
During police questioning, the husband admitted to stabbing his wife, claiming he had been told she was having an affair.
The husband was not in the UAE when he was told of the alleged affair.
After he received a text message with the news, he came to the country on a visit visa and stayed in Abu Dhabi, the court heard.
“I met my wife three times after I arrived, we had walks in parks or malls, but on the day of the incident, she attacked me because she didn’t like how I spoke to her manager,” the man said.
He said she screamed at him and shoved him, provoking him to take a knife out of a plastic bag he had and stab her.
The woman, a mother of two, booked a flight to visit her daughters two days before she was killed.
In February, the man faced a premeditated murder charge in court.
He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison – a maximum term of 25 years – to be followed by deportation, which he can appeal within two weeks.
