DUBAI // Two men tried to smuggle more than 41 kilogrammes of Tramadol into the country in a shipping container, a court heard today.

Anti-narcotics police officer arrested MA, 32, from Pakistan, when he arrived at Jebel Ali port on October 11 last year to pick up the container, sent from his homeland.

He told the officers that he owned an import and export company with branches in Dubai and Pakistan and was misled over what the shipment contained.

"I was informed by the branch in Pakistan that a container of medicine would arrive but I didn't know the medications were drugs," he said, adding that he was to hand the shipment on to his compatriot SF, 50.

Both men were arrested and charged with smuggling drugs. They did not enter a plea at the Criminal Court.

The case was adjourned to April 9.
