Man posted revealing pictures of wife he was divorcing
DUBAI // A man posted revealing pictures of his wife on the internet after she refused to drop a compensation claim over their impending divorce, a court heard today.
The Dubai Criminal Court heard that OM, a 34-year-old from Egypt, and SA, his 30-year-old compatriot, had been married on July 14 but fell out after just two weeks due to a financial dispute.
"The problems started after I refused to take out a car loan for him in my name from the bank I work in," the now ex-wife told prosecutors. "We agreed to divorce but he had one condition, which was that I would give up my right to divorce compensation - something I refused."
She said her husband threatened to ruin her reputation before accessing her email account and sending naked pictures of her to her family members and work colleagues. In the emails he claimed that she was working as a belly dancer at night.
He also opened a Facebook account under a false identity in which he posted naked pictures of her and said that she was searching for male company.
OM denied charges of blackmail and making threats. He also denied a charge of violating privacy.
The next hearing is expected on June 20.
