A man molested a woman in her Business Bay apartment as she slept after stealing Dh500 from her, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

The Filipina manager said that, at nearly 5am on February 16 this year, she felt a hand uncover her and touch her leg while she was sleeping.

“When I screamed, I saw a shadow of a man running then my flatmates rushed into my room and said they also saw someone running out of the flat,” the 30-year-old woman said.

She said she also checked her belongings and found Dh500 missing from her purse.

Her 29-year-old British flatmate told prosecutors she left the apartment door open because her roommate had not come home yet but saw someone come into her room holding a flash light and then went back to sleep.

The women called police who on April 26 told them to report to the police station to identify the intruder.

Both women identified a 24-year-old Lebanese man who was also seen on the building’s CCTV footage the day of the incident despite not living there.

He was charged with trespassing, sexual assault and theft, all of which he denied in court.

“There isn’t one solid evidence that I walked into that flat, which I didn’t, and I didn’t steal anything,” he told judges.

The court will issued a verdict on July 31.
