Man jailed four years for taking drugs despite rehab claims
DUBAI // A man has been sentenced to four years in prison for taking drugs despite his claim that he checked himself in rehab a week before his arrest.
RE, 43, an Emirati, was found guilty by the Criminal Court of consuming Morphine and possessing one tablet of Clonazepam.
Anti-narcotics officers who raided his flat on January 22 found a number of other controlled medications including Tramadol, but no charges over these were raised after the man produced verified prescriptions for them.
He claimed that the tablet the police found had also been prescribed to him. "The tablet was part of a medication I was prescribed months back, and I dropped it somewhere in the house a long time ago," he told the court.
He told the court he entered rehab just one week prior to the police raid.
