Man in court over 'sandals' remark to policeman

A government employee has denied telling a policeman he 'was worth nothing more than a pair of sandals'.

DUBAI // A government employee has denied telling an on-duty police officer he was "worth nothing more than a pair of sandals".

SA, a 39-year-old Emirati, made the remark while the policeman was directing traffic in front of Mamzar Park on February 19, 2010, the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours heard recently.

HA said he had stepped in to ease a traffic jam when SA tried to steer around him into the park. When HA intervened, SA is said to have started shouting obscenities before trying to drive away. HA blocked the vehicle from leaving, recorded the driver's details and told him to visit the Muraqqabat police station.

The court scheduled its next hearing for March 9.
