Man forged UAE seals to accredit degree, court told

He faked official stamps from the Delhi embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prosecutors say.

DUBAI // An Indian salesman forged the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs' seals and stamps to falsely accredit a degree, a Dubai court heard today.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance was told that AA,  a 34-year-old Indian salesman, forged the seals of the UAE embassy's consulate section in New Delhi as well as stamps from the foreign affairs ministry.

He was stopped and searched at Dubai International airport on June 20 after a customs official became suspicious.

The degree certificate, which is in his name, was found in his bag. The inspector suspected it was false after noticing there were some missing letters in the seals, according to public prosecution records.

The certificate was sent to the forensics laboratory, and tests confirmed that both the seals and the stamps were forged.

The next hearing will be on January 22.
