Man convicted of using other person's ID

He found the labour card on the ground and assumed its identity, prosecutors said.

DUBAI // An unemployed 27-year-old was sentenced this morning to six months in prison for using the official ID of another man and presenting it to police.

AM, from Pakistan, who entered the country illegally, confessed to the charges before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance this month.

He was referred separately to the Court of Misdemeanours on charges of using a different name and entering the country illegally.

A 48-year-old corporal at Al Rashidiya police station told prosecutors that while he was patrolling the area with two colleagues, he stopped AM and asked him for his ID. AM offered a labour card, which had been used to file a report at Jebel Ali police station.

When the corporal checked with the station, he found the card belonged to another man.

AM confessed to finding the card on the ground in Bur Dubai and using it. He said he did not know the owner of the card.

He will be deported after serving his jail term.
