Man believed to be high on drugs assaulted police in Dubai, court hears
DUBAI // A man believed to be high on drugs assaulted two police officers trying to arrest him, a court was told today.
Iranian student MD, 26, ran away when approached by the officers, attempted to set two large dogs on them by opening their cages and then jumped over a wall to escape, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
When the officers, GS and AS, caught up with MD, he tried to fight them off, bruising the officers and breaking AS's toe in the process.
With additional officers, they got the man under control and searched his apartment. No drugs were found but he was taken to a criminal lab for a drugs test, prosecutors said.
Dubai Police's anti-narcotics department were acting on a tip-off that MD was in possession of and consuming drugs.
Investigators tracked him down to his home in Al Qusais, Dubai, where the incident unfolded.
The student was charged with assaulting police officers, while lab results were pending. He was not present in court to enter a plea.
The next hearing will be on November 11.
