A man tried to rape a woman he met at a dance club after bringing her back to his apartment in International City, hears court.
Man accused of trying to rape woman he met in Dubai nightclub
DUBAI // A man who invited a woman home after meeting her at a hotel nightclub in Bur Dubai tried to rape her at his International City apartment, a court heard today.
TM, 32, from Syria, threw the woman to his couch and tried to rip off her trousers but she fought him off by kicking at him, prosecutors told the Criminal Court. When she threatened to call police, the man threw himself to the floor and pretended to have a muscle spasm.
The woman said someone must have heard her screams as police arrived and rescued her. The man resisted arrest but was taken to Rashidiya Police Station where he insulted a police colonel.
"He told the colonel that his rank will not do him any good and that there was no law at the UAE," testified the officer MY, 27.
The court heard the pair had met at the nightclub on August 20 last year and that the two began drinking alcohol before heading to the man's apartment along with two other friends at about 3am.
The group continued to drink alcohol at the apartment before the man asked the two friends to leave. He then attacked the woman.
"He told me that he wanted me to become his girlfriend and that he wanted to have sex with me and when I refused because I had just met him he started punching me and took away my mobile," said the woman.
The man was charged with attempted rape, resisting arrest, insulting a colonel and consuming alcohol.
He was not present in court to enter a plea. The next hearing was scheduled for March 24.
