Man accused of sexually assaulting teen he offered to take on a boat tour

Dubai Criminal Court heard that the girl was allegedly lured aboard while enjoying a beach day with friends

A 61-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl after asking her to take a trip with him on a boat, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.

Prosecutors said the Emirati approached the girl and her friends while they were on the beach.

After asking her to accompany him on a boat tour, he then took her hand and forced her to touch his genitals, according to court documents.

The incident took place on November 18 last year.

“My friend and I were on the beach and the defendant approached us. He asked my friend to board the boat with him and grabbed her hand. A few minutes later [when she returned to the beach], I noticed a strange facial expression suggesting that she felt uncomfortable,” the victim’s friend, a 16-year-old Emirati, told prosecutors.

The girls reported the incident to security guards on the beach who alerted police and the man was arrested on the same day.

The defendant denied charges and requested the court to hire a lawyer for him.

The next hearing will be on January 21.
