DUBAI // A male prostitute who advertised his services over the internet was today sentenced to a year in prison.

EA, 30, a Filipino, posted pornographic images of himself on a social networking website and offered to have sex with clients in return for a fee of Dh400.

He used a pseudonym in his adverts, but members of the police's Electronic Department tracked him down by phoning the mobile phone number he posted.

An undercover officer arranged to meet him at the Address Hotel on November 25 last year. When the two met, the Filipino demanded Dh800 in return for sex. Other officers then raided the room and arrested him. They searched him and found two condoms in his pocket, along with a mobile phone containing a number of pornographic images and clips of men.

Under interrogation, the man admitted to having sex with his compatriot ED, a waiter, in return for Dh500. The waiter was then arrested.

The Criminal Court found EA guilty of prostitution and promoting sin and sentenced him to a year in prison. It charged the waiter with having consensual sex outside of marriage and sentenced him to six months in prison.

Both men will be deported after completing their jail terms.
