Life sentence for businessman who raped job applicant

A man is sentenced to life in prison for raping a woman he promised to take to a job interview.

DUBAI // A businessman who promised an interview to a jobseeker but raped her instead was today sentenced by the Dubai Criminal Court to life in prison.

KM, a 24-year-old businessman from India, approached the Filipina MF, also 24, after spotting her CV on a recruitment website. The woman was in Dubai on a visit visa while searching for a job.

He contacted her and arranged to met her at the Ibn Battuta Mall, promising her an interview, but instead took her to his flat and locked her up.

He told her his friends were downstairs and said she would be gang-raped if she refused to have sex with him. He threw her onto a bed, undressed her against her will then raped her despite her crying and pleading with him.

He then led her to the bathroom and forced her to wash before driving her back to the mall.

She met her sister at the mall and told her what had happened and the pair then reported the matter to police.

He was charged with kidnapping and deceiving the woman as well as forcibly undressing and raping her. He was also charged with threatening her with gang rape.

The man will be deported after serving his prison term.
