Dubai // Two men posing as police officers waved a knife at a woman and snatched her toddler before robbing her apartment, a court heard.

The Dubai Criminal Court was told that Pakistanis AM, 29, and AZ, 23, knocked on the Indian woman's door in Al Qouz area on the morning of October 18, claiming to be policemen.

"They told me they had information we were sub-letting," said the 27-year-old housewife, RS.

The woman was told to give them her passport before one of the men snatched her 15-month-old baby and the other waived a knife at her. They ordered her to hand them all the valuables she possessed in the flat, records show.

RS then took off all the jewelry she and her baby were wearing. "I could not take off the baby's bracelet but they insisted so i cut it with the scissors," said the woman.

She said that they used her baby's clothes to clean their fingerprints from the apartment then hid the stolen valuables in the same shirt.

"As they headed to the door to leave, I asked them to give back my passport but they said they would if we paid them, then they took my husband's phone number to arrange for that," said RS.

RS informed police through her neighbour and about 20 minutes later, her husband returned with the police.

The men were arrested after they tried to call her husband and demanded Dh15,000 in return for her passport.

Both confessed to robbery in court today but denied they were armed.

A verdict is expected on December 12.
