Kidnappers who held man for a Dh4,500 ransom have sentence upheld
DUBAI // Two men who kidnapped a labourer and demanded a Dh4,500 ransom had their six month jail sentences upheld by the Appeals Court today.
AH, 26 and MR, 35, both from Bangladesh, kidnapped MJ on July 6 last year and held him captive on the roof of a building in Naif while demanding the money from one of his friends.
But the friend contacted police and the kidnappers were arrested.
Under police interrogation the pair said that the labourer's relatives in Al Ain had already paid them some ransom money, but they were trying to get more from the man's friend.
At their trial in the Criminal Court both men denied kidnap and assault charges, but were found guilty.
