DUBAI // A woman was today sentenced to four years in jail for consuming hashish, while the man who provided her with the drug received five years.
The 27-year-old Moroccan tailor, IL, confessed to consuming the drug, telling the Dubai Criminal Court that she had been given it by IS, a 28-year-old clerk from Egypt.
Police arrested the pair on January 31 shortly after midnight following a tip off from an informant. Officers did not find any drugs when they searched the woman's house in Sharjah, but both of them tested positive for drugs.
Prosecutors said the pair consumed hashish, Meprobamate, Tramadol, and Prazolam.
The clerk denied supplying drugs, but admitted consuming them.
"I consumed hashish your honour but I didn't provide her with any," he told the court.
However, the woman contradicted him, saying: "No your honour that is not true, it was he who provided me with the drugs."
The court fined the man Dh20,000. Both will be deported following their prison terms.
