DUBAI // A man who kidnapped an electrician has had his one-year jail sentence upheld by the Cassation Court.

SK, 38, from India was one of five men who kidnapped Bangladeshi KS, 34, from the Fish Market in Sharjah before taking him to a flat in Dubai's International City and holding him captive.

Police were called to the apartment after passersby heard the man screaming from the window and believed he was about to commit suicide. Officers found out the five men kidnapped him in an act of revenge after he stole from them.

CK, 29, RK, 32, and SK, 38, all from India, were sentenced to a year in prison to be followed by deportation. RP, 37, from India and QM, 37, from Bangladesh, were sentenced to six months prison to be followed by deportation.

Only SK appealed the verdict, but it was upheld by both the Appeals Court and later by the Cassation Court.
