DUBAI // A maid who ran away from her sponsor to work as a prostitute had her six-month jail sentence upheld by the Appeals Court today.

AF, 36, from Indonesia, came to the attention of police after falling from the window of her apartment in Al Nahda 2 and being taken to hospital on November 19 last year.

She was taken to hospital for treatment but did not have any proof of identity, so police were called. She confessed to absconding from her sponsor five months after arriving in the country in October 2010.

She said she had worked as a part time maid in several apartments before she began prostituting herself in November 2012. She told police she would have sex with up to five men a day in return for Dh300-Dh400 per customer.

At her trial at the Criminal Court she confessed to a charge of prostitution.

She will be deported after completing her jail term.
