DUBAI // An investor threatened to kill a man who made a police complaint against him, a court heard today.

The Dubai Criminal Court heard that SJ, a 40-year-old from China, threatened his compatriot MA on the phone and ordered him to drop a report he filed against him at the Rashidiya Police Station for trespassing into his house.

Two other Chinese, AM, a 52-year-old businessman, and YA, a 38-year-old doctor, said they were with MA when he received the threatening call on November 18 at about 1.30am. They said that the phone's loud speaker setting was on at the time so they both heard the threat to kill both the man and his family, who are in China.

SJ was not present in court to enter a plea. The next hearing was scheduled for May 29.
